Head of Engineering Services and Compliance

At Cardiff Met, we’re building a campus environment that enables people to thrive – supporting innovative teaching, impactful research and an outstanding student experience. Ranked 1st in Wales in the People & Planet University League, we’re turning ambition into action; backed by nearly £25M in low-interest loan funding to deliver decarbonisation works over the next four years, creating smarter and more sustainable spaces for our community.

You’ll be joining a multi-award winning team, recognised with the Times Higher Education Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership’.

As our Head of Engineering Services and Compliance, you’ll play a defining role in shaping safe, sustainable and future-focused spaces, helping us deliver our Strategy 2030 and net zero commitments.

You’ll lead a specialist engineering team and work collaboratively across the University to ensure our estate is safe, compliant and ready for the future.

You’ll play a key role by:

  • Guiding a high-performing engineering services and compliance function across mechanical, electrical and statutory disciplines.
  • Championing a proactive, data-informed approach to asset management, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to create environments that enhance the student and staff experience.
  • Delivering programmes of work that address safety, statutory compliance, condition, energy efficiency, internal thermal comfort and pedagogic need.
  • Acting a trusted expert and advisor for all aspects of engineering services and estate compliance.
  • Operating as the University’s Authorised Person and Competent Person for mechanical services.

What you’ll bring

You bring substantial experience in mechanical engineering services, with strong technical expertise in statutory compliance, maintenance and the delivery of engineering works. You apply this with a clear focus on service quality and sustainability, ensuring environments are safe, efficient and support the needs of our students and staff.

Additionally, you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience acting as a technical lead for statutory mechanical compliance.
  • Experience developing and prioritising planned maintenance programmes, alongside the ability to design, specify and manage remedial and refurbishment works.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, engineering standards and building regulations.
  • Well-developed organisational, project management and analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling you to build strong relationships and work collaboratively.
