Technician Demonstrator Applied Psychology

To support the delivery of high-quality, practice-based learning, research and innovation within Applied Psychology, we’re looking for a Technician Demonstrator to provide specialist technical expertise and hands-on support across our teaching and research facilities. You’ll play a lead role in enabling students and staff to carry out safe, effective, and innovative practical work using specialist equipment and software.


 

You’ll lead the way by:

  • Supporting the delivery of practical teaching and providing demonstrations for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Managing specialist psychology facilities, maintaining equipment such as EEG, BIOPAC and eye-tracking systems, ensuring safe and effective operation.
  • Providing training and guidance to students and staff in the safe and appropriate use of equipment and software.
  • Collaborating with academic and technical teams to design and deliver practical sessions aligned with module learning outcomes.
  • Maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge and contributing to research and innovation activities within the School.
  • Promoting and monitoring health and safety compliance, contributing to the wellbeing of students and staff.


What you’ll bring

With strong technical expertise and a collaborative approach, you’ll play a lead role. You’ll combine hands-on practical knowledge with a clear understanding of how to support students and staff in a dynamic academic environment. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly will help students and colleagues develop confidence and competence in using specialist equipment and software safely and effectively.

Additionally, you’ll bring:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Recognised and relevant practical experience in psychology or a related field.
  • Excellent IT skills, with experience using specialist and statistical software such as SPSS and OpenSesame.
  • A proven ability to manage health and safety within an educational or psychology setting.
  • A flexible approach to teamwork, ensuring that all activities are supported.
