Research Fellow, National Cardiovascular Research Network

The National Cardiovascular Research Network (NCRN) is a Health and Care Research Wales funded pioneering interdisciplinary collaboration connecting academics, medical and non-medical health care professionals, industry, and charities, with a mission to drive cardiovascular research excellence and capacity across Wales.

Supported by the NCRN, the Centre for Cardiovascular Research, Innovation and Development (CURIAD) at Cardiff Met is excited to announce the launch of its Research Fellowships. The aim of the fellowships is to support and develop outstanding cardiovascular researchers, providing candidates with the opportunity to broaden their research horizons and start developing their own distinct research leadership.

How to Apply
As part of the application process candidates must complete the project plan template at the bottom of this advert. Candidates must propose a project which has strong cardiovascular research focus, aligned to CURIAD research agenda as well as one or more of the NCRNs primary research themes:

  1. Vascular Ageing and Clinical Outcome;
  2. Tackling Arrhythmias and Myocardial Disease;
  3. Data and Advanced Analytics. We strongly encourage proposals that emphasize cross-institution interdisciplinary collaborations.

Candidates are also encouraged to discuss their proposal with CURIAD early in their application/proposal development process.

The fellowships are open to applicants with a background in cardiovascular research including non-clinical and clinical health care professionals, as well as those transitioning from other disciplines or industry.

Eligible candidates can apply for both part-time and full-time awards of up to 2 years. Applications with co-funding to support the fellowship are encouraged but it is not a prerequisite.

The successful candidate will conduct a programme of cardiovascular research, with the expectation of securing a competitive peer-reviewed fellowship or other external funding during their tenure. The successful candidate will be provided with additional funding to support their professional development and research programme.

Additionally, you’ll:

  • assess, interpret, and evaluate research outcomes;
  • manage the application of relevant regulatory and ethical principles, including any ethics and governance procedures relevant to the project;
  • communicate complex research ideas and research findings.
